330 ml bottle, label now says "Brugse Babbelaar"

clear dark golden, with bright white head. typical Belgian yeast and pale malt aroma and flavor, a touch herbal. thinner bodied.

Clear gold/amber. Fruity, malty, crisp, a bit of banana in the smell. You get a bit of banana in the taste as well, but it's very smooth and is balanced well with the sweet malts, and slight fruitiness.

 

My bottle is actually Brugse Babbelaar, but apparently it's the same beer.
(quite close to the drink before date)

A: Fairly pale colour, a bit hazy, not a big head

S: orange and peach, small hint of hops, not a lot of complexity

T: Granny smith and orange, some yeast and some hops at the end

M; undercarbonated, quite thin, a bit dusty

O: certainly not the best I've drunk, (might be a bit too old, but it still okay when you see the date)

$3 for a Taster in a small Chimay Goblet Glass.

Appearance: Hazed milky pale yellow body with some light golden hints. Creamy white head sits nice and proud at ½” deep all the time. Streamers and bold conditioning give this brew a “full of life” presence.

Nose: Delicately sweet with a floral aspect, yet there is a hint of bitterness. Bakery whiffs and some farmyard essence in the back end.

Taste: Sweet biscuit malts flash at the start, the entrance has a mild breaded dough but soon the hops and bitterness rise large in the middle Mmmmm, rather bitter and hoppy with a thirst quenching nature were my fist impressions but follow up drinks reveal a complex collection of tastes that are nicely balanced. Has a citric lemon finish with some sharpness.

Mouthfeel: Big on the tongue, bitter and hoppy with a very dry finish which is accentuated by the solid conditioning.

Drinkability: I could easily have managed another one of these, and if I did it wouldn’t have been a small Sampler. I would have no hesitations picking up a whole 750ml of this one if I could.

Overall: Tasty stuff and thoroughly enjoyable. Recommended.

04/14/05- Had on tap at the Toronado during Belgian Beer month.

Presentation- From the tap into a tulip glass.

Appearance- Golden pour with a nice small ultra white creamy head. Lacing is above average.

Smell- Sweet scent with maybe a bit of corriander or hefe-esque scent in the background.

Taste- Very sweet, somewhat sour and definite hoppy bitterness. This definitely supplants De Ranke XX as the most hoopiest beer from Belgium I have had.

Mouthfeel- Ultra dry, but leaves you craving another sip immeadiately. Moderate to higher carbonation.

Drinkability- If I see it again, but in a bottle, I will be sure to grab one or two. Very tasty and refreshing.

The beer pours a slightly hazy orange-yellow color with a smallish bright white head that is semi-creamy in texture, and the lace a rather thin veil to conceal the glass. Nose is somewhat sweet, orange peel and coriander along with a strong scent of yeast, citrus like crispness, start is sweet and sour, mild malt profile with a rather slender feel to the top. finish is persistent in its a acidity, the hops forthright and the aftertaste somewhat bitter, dry a bleached desert bone, a fair to middling beer, certainly not the best beer I've ever had from Belgium, but then not the worst either.
