A new one to me, and to everyone else by the fact I have had to add this to BA.
Described as a hoppy strong dubbel with liquorice, caramel and coffee...who am I to argue with that.
This is where the 0.25 scoring get's in my way a little, look is like 3.9, so a 3.75 would be harsh, anyway I digress.
It pours a dark chestnut body with caramel head, maybe only a finger. The. Good people from Beerwulf recommend to use a goblet and to serve at 10 degrees, advice I duly follow.
Head dissipates, but lacing is ok.
Aroma is a strange mix of hops and malt, plenty of dark ripe fruits and a sour tone.
Taste is as described, light coffee and caramel, slightly spiced, and leaves a longing aftertaste which is always a winner.
Feel is a little watery on the tongue and an overly candy dry sweetness as you swallow. Would have been a heck of a lot better had it had more substance.
Overall at 9% it is a heavy hitter for a dubbel and definitely worth a try. Is it as good as say a Chimay Red or Maredsous Dubbel? I would respond it is different, more like a better petrus bruin!
