Bought in Antwerp
Appearance is a dark brown beer that is clear, but has a lot of floating flakes of yeast. And a thin off-white head.
Smell is fruity with light roasted, chocolate notes. Smell is not very pronounced.
Taste of chocolate and light roast, that is a little sharp/ hard. Some grapes and a good maltbitterness. Body is sticky and a bit sweet.
Bitterness is low. The roasted malts are a bit too harsh.

This is a beer without an anchor. Body flies away from the palate into watery. The sweetness lifts quickly in the taste leading to burning booze. Woof! Some molasses, some brown sugar, but not much else in support. Not a do over.

Not bad, but a bit disappointed considering it's background.
Aroma:Nice sweet caramel aroma followed by hops.
Appearance: dark cherry red, good head
Mouthfeel: creamy medium body
Taste: I thought the alcohol was not that well hidden. And as drinking went on, the alcohol burn got more intense- not in a good way.

Brown 33cl bottle, bought in Belgium, but with Japanese on the rear label? This was the fourth beer on one of my 'random beer tasting evenings' with the wife. Best before 3 Nov 2011, drank Aug 2010.
Poured into a Westmalle chalice: Reddy brown and clear body, no lumps or bumpd flaoting about, so all the sediment stayed in the bottle. The off-white head soon turned into a thin wisp and collar.
The aroma and flavours within the taste were disappointingly sweet, molasses and a pronounced sugary malted beer taste just killed the beer for me (and the wife).
There was no substance to the beer, thin and weak for the style, I know they can be sweet, but this was a poor example of the type and obviously for the export market.

Thanks to my friend Dave for bringing this oddity back from Belgium. I've never had a Belgian beer (from BE) with Japanese on the label.
There's a thin candied plum aroma with a hint of flowers. The flavor has a mild toffee and cocoa character and more of the sweet plum. Overall the beer is too light for the style. Really, it would be more appropriate for a beer half its strength. And until it warms up, the taste is also fairly simple. At first it reminded me of the regional Belgian abbey-style ale, and while it similar, this does have some depth to it.

Pours amber with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Good retention. Tons of carbonation rising. Good lacing. Nice to look at.
Aroma of sweet malts and caramel.
Taste is sweet malts, light hops, dark cherries. Slight cough-syrup like taste.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, cleansing and dry.
Overall, a decent brew. Rather unique. A little hard to place.

Found this in a local import store
Appearance: Beautiful crimson colour
Smell: Overbearing. Burnt toffee and molasses
Taste: Again, overbearing. It tastes like burnt sugar...marshmallows that have been charred over a fire. Alcohol is well hidden, but by what?? Thoroughly unenjoyable.
Mouthfeel: Typical of a beer of its style and ABV
Drinkability: I wouldn't touch another one of these. This is the worst Belgian beer I've ever had. The prevailing taste of charred sugar almost makes it seem like the brewer made a mistake, but let it slide.

Dark brown, tending a bit to a muddy shade. Beige head, not bad. Quite carbonated in appearance.
Inthe smell a malty backbone, with a light fruitiness, touches of caramel, some peach and apricot. And in the ned something dark, like carrob.
Not bad at the taste, with light fruity notes, but not too sugary.
More than drinkable, with the alcohol well hidden.
Average body, not too long aftertaste.

BB 23-08-08. Brewed by proefbrouwerij for "brouwerij de Arend" Hoboken. Lightyellow head and a mahony and clear beer under the well lasting. Nose is quiet caramellic with hint of roastyness and candysugar next to some yeasty citric fruityness. Queit mellow overall but bit creamy. Taste is stronger making the alcohol well noticable, good caramel, coffee and in aftertaste a well dosed bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel and quiet high carbonisatiolevel fitting the brew. Easy drinkable and enjoyable.
