A very special "thanks" goes out to Ed "daHammer" Hamrick for hauling this one all the way back from Belgium. Brewed to celebrate Wichelen's 825th anniversary, but the name also translates to "bum" or "beggar" beer. Okay, so Wichelen's infrequent socio-economic issues have brought woe, misery, and poverty to the region, but do they need a beer to remind them of that?
Appearance: Pours a clear, bright, yellow body with a tall, remarkably lasting, white head.
Smell: Faintly sweet pale maltiness wrapped in light notes of fruit and flowers.
Taste: Delicate, crisp Belgian pale malts rounded out by a medium amount of sweetness and taste of honeysuckle. Subtle fruitiness. Soft floral hop character with a very light bitterness, just enough for balance, really. Lightly sweet fruitiness on the altogether clean, smooth finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: A beer I could simply sit and drink all day as it's quite well-balanced and soundly refreshing. This is one bum I don't plan on shooing away!
