From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottlecraft in San Diego for eight bucks. Taste is a flat chocolatey blur. A burnt toast flavor dominates. Chalky finish. Sort of silky in the mouth, but devoid of carbonation. Dark brown color and no foam at all.
I don't know if this authentic anything, so I'll say what I think. It's flat and murky. I don't know why a little carbonation would be so wrong. If this was on the hand pump in a country pub on a rainy night, I might be more charitable. Still it's an interesting try for a style that we need more exposure to.

Pours black with ruby highlights and very little carbonation. Smells lightly roasty, sweet, and nutty. Tastes much the same with that classic english iron-like quality, and has a smooth, thinner than expected mouth feel. Easy drinking "Real Ale". Can't beat that. Cheers!

This beer is very local to me. I live less than 5 mi. from the brewery. I may have to go visit. Had this beer as part of a flight at Boneyard Bistro. Its taste is stout. The complexity is there. But it is "thinner" and sports a comparatively low ABV. The result is VERY drinkable. So much so, that when I found a bottle at Whole Paycheck, I was a happy buyer. Mouthfeel-wise, if you like "Old Engine Oil" which is listed as a porter, I think you would like this one. A nice new local brew to add to the neighborhood.
