Appearance: Slightly darker than the Edelpils and Gambrinus, the Urtyp has a more polished deeper golden color. It looks like it has something to offer the more discerning drinker. The head when poured on draft, is frothy and tense, and has very good staying power.
Smell: Stronger, pilsener malt nose, with a light hoppy dimension. It does smell very fresh when inhaled and inviting.
Taste: Bottom-fermented, very clean, extremely fresh tasting and a deeply refreshing drink. Has a much greater depth of character than most Pils.
Mouthfeel: Average. The taste has enough depth to allow you to enjoy and savor this offering. Light Malts pleasantly stay around. Crisp mouthfeel.
Drinkability: I find Lagers easy to drink, even the bland ones, but this has real character and taste, and it all adds to make this a very enjoyable Urtyp Pilsener. It has a wonderful refreshing character that makes each mouthful a joy. It is classed as a premium lager in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg by Brasserie Battin. Whilst this claim may not stand up to scrutiny elsewhere; this beer probably will - a very good example of an Urtyp Pilsener.
Overall: Brasserie Battin do two rather average Pils beers. This third variant, Urtyp, is by far their best and at 5.5%ABV their strongest. Sadly, it is quite seldom seen - a shame really.
