HopEra "Scotch Ale Au Sucre D'or"
on tap @ Le Projet, Québec, QC on 3 Octobre 2014
$4.35 Canadian / pint
Notes: Listed at 8.0% ABV. Somewhat cloudy mahogany brown beneath a thick tan head. The aroma mainly expresses alcohol and fruit, but also some caramel and toasty malt. The flavor is much fuller with a caramelish malt that's like dark caramel and almost burnt-sugar, obviously from the maple syrup but it doesn't come across to me in that way. There's some apple, subtle dark skinned fruit, and a hint of smokiness. The alcohol is also clear, and there are some light phenols (not too bad). It's medium-full in body and smooth. Points for trying to do something unique but it appears the fermentation got away from them a little bit. Hoping to try this one again for a re-review.

Cloudy dark amber in color with a pretty small off-white head.
Smell of caramel and lots of malts. A little bit of coffee aroma too and some maple syrupé
In the mouth there's lots of maple syrup though., maybe even a little bit too much. It's really sweet. There's a nice alcohol flavor though with some burn in the throat.
