Exuberantly foamy but very regular and lasting head, beautiful on a hazy orange mahogany color body. The smell is basically raw malts. The taste is roundly malty, caramel with some burnt notes and light hints of red fruits. A slightly sour aftertaste with a lasting hoppy finish. Mouthfeel is round and creamy but the burnt notes and the thick hoppy finish make it kind of unbalanced and not adapted to the style. Not really drinkable.

Brasserie Redange: Okult No. 2 Rousse.
Strength: 5.4% ABV.
Style: Unfiltered Amber Beer (Organic).
33cl Curved Flute Serving Glass.
Tasted on Draft at the Brasserie Artisanale de Redange BrewPub on 19th April 2003, during a Brewery Visit.
Appearance: A cloudy red looking beer. A slightly off-white, cream colored head that lasted for a minute or two, then immediately disappeared to reveal a rather flat looking offering. Very turbid, and the deep red color looked so murky that it led one to believe that yeast was in suspension.
Smell: Very earthy, this was to become a trait of the Redange beers, maybe it was linked to the fact that they were Organic who knows. Strong malty nose.
Taste: It took me a while to get used to this one. Allegedly akin to Bavarian Bockbiers, so the Brewer said, I found that the malt dominated the tastes from start to finish. The end had a slightly chewy toffee aspect. It was also referred to as an Amber beer. For me it was more akin to a Dark Wheat Beer to be honest. Quite the strangest of beer and tastes.
Mouthfeel: Grainy malt spreads itself in the mouth and coats the inner mouth. Full bodied beer, maybe too full-bodied for my liking.
Drinkability: Hard to come to terms with, I found the grainy malt a bit rough around the edges to be honest. The caramel aspects in the finish helped the beer go down. I couldnt have faced another one of these. Not a bad beer, nor offensive beer, just not to my liking.
Overall: A strange offering, never really had anything like this before, so I find it hard to judge. I will give this beer the benefit of the doubt and say that it was just not my cup of tea. Malt heads may like it. Different!
