The tasting room of Ohana Brewing is not what I was expecting. Sitting next to 38 Degrees, it's a great location to catch beer geeks walking by. It's small interior further makes it easier to go in and out. However, it is not your typical beer tasting room. The bar is small, there are no seats, and you are limited to 4 ounce tasters if you are drinking on the premise (no pints). With a number of different merchandise being sold from coffee beans, artwork, and tap handles, the tasting room felt more like a company store than a tasting room.
6 different taps being poured behind the bar, but overall there were 8 taps pouring (the other two coming from a different source). Styles gravitated towards classic American style; among those were a coffee IPA, coffee amber ale, blonde ale, brett ale, classic amber ale, and Double IPA. Never had any beers from Ohana, I was curious to taste a few. The four I tried ranged from solid to good, with the brett beer offering a pleasant tartness that would make many tart tongues happy. "Quality" would rank higher if the beers weren't poured into small plastic cups. Grolwers can be filled and taken home.
The service was the highlight of the visit. It looks likes the parents of the owner are running the tasting room, and they were very supportive not just for him, but the product. Their friendliness will make anyone feel at home.
I'm looking forward to trying more of Ohana's beers in the future. It makes a great warm-up to dinner at 38 Degrees next door.

I visited Ohana Brewing tonight after putting in some hours at work. Ohana is located right next to my favorite bar and grill, 38 Degrees in Alhambra.
This is a small but very clean tasting room. There's a couple of standing tables, but no chairs to sit down.
Tonight Andrew, the owner, was manning the tasting room. He was very nice. It might be a city ordinance, but there's a 4 taster limit. That's about what I normally get, so no big deal. I had 4 tasters of various styles. 3 of the 4 were good, one I didn't care for.
I didn't try their special beer on tap which was a coffee stout, which generally is my favorite type of beer. A reason to return.
It didn't bother me, but they do offer tasters in plastic cups. Andrew offered some munchies which I accepted since I was hungry.
Nice visit all around.
