On tap @ brewery - poured a dark light defying black with a modest mocha colored cap that almost instantly reduced to a surface lace (what is it with this brewer not making a brew that produces a decent head?) .....Aroma was faint but there is some smoky - musty cocoa notes, some roast grains, light sweetness. Flavor has some dark malting in front, missed the lactose presence, missed the hop presence got the smoke but totally lacking in character....thin and unlike a milk stout - long wet finish where some off tastes (hints of DMS) are barely contained. Needs lots of work. I've tasted better home brews.

It's not like me to down rate a beer for any other reason than the brewer improves....which I hope they do - these one-off are not commercial quality like their flagship beers are
