Poured at 50°F from a 12oz bottle (no date, but this beer had dust on the bottle when I bought it at the store, so we can assume this is quite a few months old) into a snifter. Consumed on 28Mar16.
LOOK: Pours with a quarter fingers worth of khaki foam that dies into a partial line after 15 seconds. Dark brown in color with a ruby tint. No visible rising bubbles. Lacing is scarce and thin.
SMELL: Strong aromas of sweet chocolate and caramel entangle with mild aromas of tree nuts (so far, we're more than halfway to a hot fudge sundae), coffee, and toffee along with subtle molasses aromas. Hints of bitter black tea, spicy hops, and floral hops are just enough to prevent any cloying.
TASTE: Strong sweet chocolate and caramel flavors joined by mild bittersweet coffee flavors make their grand entrance on to the palate. The initial sweetness is enhanced as mild toffee and tree nuts flavors immediately follow. Subtle molasses flavors further add to the sweetness. Finally, some balance is achieved as subtle spicy hop flavors and hints of floral hops enter as all previous flavors push on.
FEEL: Full-bodied and subtly carbonated. Goes down smooth and creamy while also clinging to the back of the throat like syrup. Finishes with a mild, but pleasant dryness.
NOTE: Some strange hybrid of a Stout and an Old Ale. But strange can be delicious and that's exactly what this was.
