From the brewery, bottled in October. Let sit out til about room temperature (~60F) , before opening.
Deep, dark near-black, with half-finger of deep tan head, that leaves a ring and a few spots of lacing. Surprising amount of head, given the abv. A little mahogany-brown light showing at the edges, when held up to the light.
Smell is cola, earthy half-decayed charred wood, chocolate syrup, though less sweet, and a touch of roasted nuts. Some chocolate cake batter aroma from the open bottle. No noticeable alcohol aroma.
Taste is almost-unsweetened chocolate, a light woody/nutty flavor , cola , and a touch of coffee . Light drying bitterness.
Feel is slick/oily , light-side-of-heavy, with light , soft carbonation tingle . A drying, bracing finish on the front half of the tongue , that lingers awhile. (Assuming that is mostly the alcohol.) Slight internal warming on the first few sips, and now 5 minutes into it, a little light-headedness, but otherwise no noticeable indication of the high abv. Wow. Great job, Marty !
Overall, a pleasure. DANGEROUSLY easy-drinking . If you like stouts, don't hesitate to try this (if you're not driving. ;) )
