A big, white head holds two inches while creamy, then quickly falls to one-half inch over the course of a minute. Mounds of dense lace coat the Pretentious Beer Glass Company American Lager glass. The beer itself is pale gold with a light fog. Occasional fine carbonation randomly races upward.
Sweet, whipped cream is followed by subtle and delicate notes of acorn and butternut squash. An earthy Farmhouse quality is pervasive throughout the aroma.
Balance is exceptional with clear notes of bitterness and sweetness. A light, sour funkiness lingers in the background. Specific flavors of light lemongrass lift the otherwise earthy beer. The finish is long, with bright lime. Bitterness outflanks the sweetness as it warms late in the finish.
This beer is somewhat crisp with a soft, full body that seems to lighten late in each sip. Alcohol is surprisingly present for a 4% beer. Warmth brings out an unfortunate astringency.
This is a pleasant beer for a weekend afternoon. Imagine it would pair well with some mindless paperwork or while reading the news.
