Very dark brown , with one finger of tan head, that leaves a thin ring, and a bit of surface sheeting. Shows some chestnut brown, with ruby tint, when held to the light.
Smell is light , freshly-ground peanuts (not sweet like peanut butter), faint coffee and chocolate, and a slight fruity aroma. The peanut smell becomes more noticeable as it warms.
Taste is mostly stout flavors , unlike aroma : earth, wood, char, chocolate, coffee, with a light flavor of freshly-roasted peanuts coming in late. At finish , there is a light fruity flavor, akin to grape jelly . Light drying bitterness shows up late , and lingers awhile.
Feel is medium, smooth , with light-medium carbonation bite towards finish. Drying after-effect, that lingers quite awhile. Other than my ears warming slightly, there's no hint of the abv.
Overall, love it! Sad that this is the last batch ever. (As far as anybody knows) Smooth, and easy-drinking. Not quite as dry as a typical dry Irish stout, but it leans that way, & drinks similarly. If I didn't know better, I'd have guessed that it was such a beer. No indication that it's a more substantial beast(Other than my warming ears). Marty sure has a talent for hiding the abv ! :)
