a blonde stout brewed with pretzels, a reasonably priced bottle from the brewery, and a pretty weird beer. i was glad to be sharing it, but i also appreciated it, without it being anywhere near my favorite beer we had from these guys on our trip to chicago. its a deep golden to light bronze color, with a tall frothing white head that stays around and leaves some nice webbing on the glass as it drinks down. aroma and flavor are sweet for sure, lactose and malt it seems, bready and even doughy for a second, cooked though too and caramelized, baked, and sweet, with some light coffee-esque roast and dry cocoa powder notes to it which are weird for its color, and maybe a little something savory if i let my mind try to get my tongue to taste the pretzels. they call it a white chocolate stout, and it does sort of have that buttery vanilla sweetness, almost the same waxy texture too as the white easter bunny i used to get each year in my basket. i like the cocoa nibs in here, it gives needed bitterness, but i think the proportions here are just a little off. too much body for what it is, too much residual sugar to be real drinkable, and not enough of the element that sold me the bottle, the pretzels! interesting though, tasty enough, and well made like all the marz stuff. a weird one, but worth a try for the adventurous drinker...
