I had this on draft 10/23/23 @ the Hopleaf.
Semi-opaque dark orange appearance.
Small khaki head; decent lacing remained.
Soap, mild lemon & faint caramel notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Soap, mild lemon & mild caramel flavors.
Interesting enough, but not one I'll seek out.

nbsoc;
Having the third one from my four pack, so I’ve had a decent moment with this beer to consider it against my own memories and affinity for ‘Anchor Steam,’ the original California Steam Beer that this one is almost certainly inspired by, given the timing with Anchor’s own pull out of national distribution.
This is a brewer's swan song to Anchor Steam going out of market and it honestly is a love letter to the beers that made craft what it is today. Pours an awesome deep amber color with great fluffy white head. Smells of sweet caramel grain, hops with just a tad of smokey astringency, very lovely!! The taste is more modern and hop forward than a more traditional take on this style, if one could even say that as the style is less than 80 years old and has gone in so many different directions up and down the western coast, but I digress.
The flavor and feel are remarkable and make me get the sensory experience I am drinking a dream of a memory, the taste and mouthfeel linger and the light hop notes really balance remarkably well with what is probably the highest quality malt bill I’ve tasted in a long time. The malt sweetness remains in the mouth in a very similar way to hop resin, great sensory on this beer!! Grassy hop tea notes grow in presence fairly steadily and into full strength at the finish while the glass warms, but even in the finish the malts shine so wonderfully, the malt bill is easily same or above quality as a Guinness foreign, just great quality across the board accentuating this is a love letter to classic craft culture! This beer is a dream to someone missing our beloved Anchor Steam, and honestly a big cheers to Marz for having the love of the style to craft this wonderful beer for fans of classic styles!!
