This beer is exactly as described on the bottle. You can definitely get the faint hints of carmel and roast like you would expect in a dark beer. The smell is a fresh grapefruit lemon and melon and a tad bit of pine from the hops. This is definitely not a sweet beer, but much flavor. I'm a big fan of IPAs and porters and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Cheers!

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a goblet. Very attractive appearance, deep blackish brown in color with scads of foamy, light tan head and lots of sticky lacing. Aromas of light roasted malt, with some light citrus notes. Not quite as hop forward on the palate as I would consider typical for a black IPA, but very good nonetheless. As it warms, the citrusy characteristics and bitterness become more pronounced. Mouthfeel is medium, with an astringent and bitter finish. Another fine offering from West O.

Coffee colored, 1 finger head

Smells of Citra and slight roast coffee and char.

Charred malts and lemon. Grapefruit rind. Too much lemon amidst the unflavorful roast malt profile.

Feel is resiny, moderate carbonation.

How'd this escape the brewery?
