The blue and lime green lable featuring a cartoon of a shark eyeing depth charges is far away from the styling of a stout's usual packaging; so no idea what to expect here...
L- Resembles a Coke, appears black but you can see a glint of ruby with a torch held at the back of the glass. Appears to have poured clear. 2mm pale tan head mostly clears quite fast.
S- Pungent, smoke, log-cinders, deep roasted notes.
T- ... follows the smell very closely, smoke lingers longest on my palate, hops appear mid-way and rise in prominence into the finish.
F- I associate this level of quite pungent flavour with a higher ABV%, that said the relatively bright hopping provides some zingy feel hence it doesn't come over as underpowered.
O- An interesting beer and somewhat different, deep flavour notes, some bright hopping and not a hint of (contemporary) sweetness or over-richness in sight.
440ml can bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a 50-60 DIY pick for home delivery. BB: 05/06/2021
ps. Now having a look at the can I see it contains eight kinds of malts! Two grains, barley and oats..
