Bonus bottle courtesy of Degarth. Thanks!
Pours light, mostly clear orange with a very small short lived white head. Smell is bright fresh, clean malt and faint simple grassy hops. Taste is rather simple malt, with some lemony character, and lightly bittering and flavored hops. Hint of a lemony tart twang, in a nice way in the finish. Pretty mild and easy drinking but not a lot of flavor. Still not bad at all.

Pours a crisp pale orange with a thin head that diminishes to a thin coating on the surface. The aroma is of some citrus hops, but not much else, very weak. The taste is a decently balanced blend of citrus hops and pale malts, nothing that will blow you away, however. The beer is light and crisp and lives up to the label calling it a session beer. This one is moderately enjoyable, but nothing extraordinary.

An interesting beer that I bought at Peabody’s package store in Boone, NC, and for whom they said this was brewed special. Although there was no outstanding quality on which to rate this beer, it would in fact be a very good session beer....low in ABV, smooth tasting and a decent finish.

I can and will buy more of these on my next trip to Boone.

Got this as part of a BIF package. Thought it was an neat curiousity brew from the south. Until I joined BA I never heard anyone talk about a "session beer". Until this BIF I never heard of a brewery selling a beer as a "session beer". I have since been enlightened.

So, what does one do with a session beer? I cooked my favorite 5 alarm chili and poured a cold session beer. In my pint glass appeared a nice orange colored brew with a quickly dissipating white head. It had light sweet malt aroma with a faint fruity / citric hops profile. Taste was similar to the aroma.

So, how did it fare complimenting the chili? Just fine. There was a touch of hop to swish away some of the spices. Not enough in the brew to skew the fine chili flavor. 2 beers and a bowl of chili later I felt happy and ready for some high test beer for the rest of the football game.

appearance: The pour gives a slight, white head that soon recedes. The beer is a pale golden amber in color.

smell: Fruity toasted malts, a peachy/apricot note, and a light hint of hops. Mushy, watery grains. Definate sourdough bread aroma.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is a high medium, and the body light.

taste: Light caramel type malts and a flavor not unlike dried apricots. Flavors of slightly overripe tree fruits. Bready. Light hop flavor and a moderate bitterness. Not much to it.

drinkability: pretty easy, an average or below pale ale though

Picked up a six at Peabody's (on special for about $5) during my latest trip to Linville Gorge.

The beer pours a reasonably attractive deep gold with a quickly thinning off-white head. A bit of cloudiness to the brew but no lacing or retention.

The smell is pretty mild - hints of a cereal-like grain (I swear it was Cheerios) and a light noble hop - but too light to identify. This actually smells pretty lager-ish but with too much body to be mistaken for a macro.

Flavor is pretty close to the smell... Non aggressive malt and hop notes lead to a pretty boring brew. There's a bit of corn syrup sweetness to a raw grain flavoring and the hops are bitter enough but the taste is either very muted or more likely a bit stale. The taste was very reminiscent of a cream ale with that lager/ale crossover flavoring...

Mouthfeel is fine - it's a medium-light bodied brew with enough carbonation and bittering to leave an okay finish. A bit of corn cereal sweetness (Sugar Pops?) leaves a slight cloying aftertaste.

A drinkable beer, I guess... Compared to any macro lager this would be a much better choice but compared to most APAs it's pretty weak. This would be a good gateway beer to introduce macro drinkers to craft beer. A real baby step, perhaps but it's a step...

A: Pours a cloudy gold with some amber hues. Somewhat similar looking to the average macro, except for the faint red hues. Thin fizzy head that doesn't last long.
S: Fruity. Bittersweet. Pleasant.
T: Nice balance between malty sweetness and some hoppy bitterness. Simple ale taste. Very average.
M: Feels watery but you can feel the hop bite on the tongue.
D: Very drinkable! The bottle says "Session Beer" and that it is.

I bought a single of this to reveiw. The beer poured out a nice orange color with little head. It had a fruity, sweet smell to it. It had a fairly bitter taste. The mouthfeel was a little below what I was expecting. It had a very sharp bite to it. The drinkability of this one would not be very high for me. But in Boone where this beer is marketed there is a fairly large college. College students like light bodied beer. So I think this beer should do well in it's intended market. Plus as a microbrew, this is the cheapest I've seen at $ 18 a case.

This beer pours a deep straw color with over an inch of thick white head that settles unevenly. The initial smell is filled with indistinct hops and honey. The hop profile is the most prominent upon tasting, with a tart finish. As you shallow a sharp metallic taste builds in the back of your throat, which is a little unpleasant. For less than $20 for a case, I enjoy this beer as a quality session beer and thirst quencher.

Single purchased for review at Peabodies in Boone, NC

Pale golden amber in color with a loose white head that retains for a few seconds before falling into a thin ring. No lace.

Aroma is grainey and malty, cereal like, with a metallic twang and some light, pilsner-like hops.

Flavor is similar, very grainey and bready, with a touch of non-descript hops in the finish.

Light in body with a dry, almost gritty mouthfeel. Not the greatest beer, but pretty easy to drink.

Taste: Relatively neutral; bready malt flavors dominate throughout, with a slight dry, hoppy finish

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: A decent crossover beer for macro lager drinkers and a good quaffer for a hot day
