Sliced Nectarine IPASliced Nectarine IPA
Notes: The inspiration for this beer came in the form of a summer farmers market and the abundance of fresh fruits and produce. The resulting IPA showcases a bright tropical aroma of stone fruits that balances the grapefruit acidity of the Chinook hops. The beer’s crisp profile refreshes and delights taste-buds and craves pairings such as slow-roasted pork shoulder or a slice of warm peach pie.

2015 vintage; drank 8/24/15 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dull orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE fluffy off-white head (careful pouring!); a curtain of frothy lace.

Nectarine & cream notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Nectarine & wheat flavors up front; stabs of citrus bite on the finish. Lemon emerged as this warmed.

Flavorful, fruity & not too sweet; nicely balanced.

Had this on tap in the bar at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago, Poured into a 12 oz. snifter type glass

Color was a yellow/gold with a 1 finger head that lasted throughout. Good lacing.

Smell was fruity, with a hint tangerine. Taste was also fruity, with a slight bitterness.

Very smooth and easy drinking. Would definitely order this again.

Look: It pours amber with a white head and small beads. Head retention is excellent.

Smell: It has aromas of peach and white grapes. There is a low level of herbal notes to it with very low grainy smells.

Taste: It has strong peach, white grape, and herbal flavors. There are also some citrus flavors that are moderate with very low grainy elements.

Feel: It has a moderate body and is a bit high on the carbonation.

Overall, this peachy elements outshine the nectarine especially in the aroma. With that said, there are good combinations of hops.

12 oz bottle of Sliced Nectarine IPA from The Wall of Beer (SC). No date stamp found.
Served in a pint glass which filled to the top with a generous, thick, off-white head over a clear copper body.
Aroma: nectarines and hops with hints of ripe peaches, yeast and baked bread.
Flavor: less striking peach/nectarine component but nicely fruity. Moderate bitterness for style with an appropriate hop hit.
Feel: very good carbonation level and feel in a medium+ body.

i like this beer a lot, and i love the idea, but to me its just not all that hoppy, and chinook may have been a weird choice for this. its clear and golden in the glass, sunny and shiny and appealingly lightly carbonated, oddly enough for me (i almost always prefer high bubbles, but it works here). it really does smell and taste like nectarines, natural and just short of perfectly ripe, like post the rock hard stage but pre the juicy bruised dripping ripeness, probably exactly when they actually sliced and added them. its not that sweet for how natural it is, and there is some hop bitterness, but i dont get all that much flavor from them, more of a generic chinook profile to me than one robust and fresh and full of life. i do like the grain complexion coming through, sort of a golden ale type base, a lot of these fruited ipa types just taste like the fruit, or like dry hopping, but this is delicate in those respects and tastes like beer, and i really appreciate that. enjoyable nectarine all the way though, so authentic that its obviously not peach, also really cool. these guys seem to have an awesome grasp on the culinary elements in their beers, and while i think this would have been more compelling with something like nelson instead of chinook, its a cool beer and definitely its own entity! good stuff.

Saturated sunset orange tone, initial foam that fades quickly with no lace.
Citrusy orange/grapefruit aroma, not getting any nectarine or peach.
Taste is mildly bitter and citrus peel notes come through, lingering into the bitter aftertaste. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation, easy drinking. A pretty textbook IPA.

12oz bottle, probably from @mr-jj. Date on the label is 11-22-16, so it's in my range of freshness, but on the borderline.

Pours a deep amber with a medium head and medium carbonation. Smell is a little muted, piney, definitely some stonefruit.

Taste is approaching the "old hay" flavor that I associate with too-old IPAs, but not there yet. Hop profile makes me think primarily of west coast piney bitter IPAs, but there's a clear thread of nectarine or peach running through it that goes pretty nicely. Fruitiness comes out a little more as I drink a little more of it.

Mouthfeel is maybe a little too still, but pleasantly thick. Overall, this is a nice, tasty beer.

From notes taken 9/15 on a visit to Chicago.

Pure amber in color with a subtle aroma that includes notes of citrus and malt. Tastes of light fruits, and grain. Not a whole lotta' bitter. There's a slight spiciness in the back ground. Light in body.

Always a highlight of any trip to seek out the new and local. And while this isn't necessary a top-tier IPA, it sure was fun drinking it, if for nothing more than the spirit of exploration.

Fairly dark, nearly amber in color. The aroma is all malt and the taste is pretty much the same. In a blind taste test, I'd call this a slightly hoppy amber. The fruity qualities emerge as the beer warms but they are not strong. It's a decent beer but I've rated this beer to style and thus given it lower marks. It might be old (no date) but it does not taste like an IPA. I would definitely try it again if it were fresh or if I felt like a good amber.

Tried it again. Still malty but a lot more citrus in the nose and hop in the taste. More like an IPA this time around. Still no substantial sense of the nectarine though.

Had this on tap. Fruity essence and rind aromas. On taste it is easy to pickup on the delightful citrus. Mild malt. Mouthfeel is creamy if not a bit chewy. No detection of alcohol to detract from the overall experience. Paired this with local bbq. This is way better, imho, than Stone Tangerine by a mile. A lot of great craft out there but you would do well to give this a try.

The taste isn't overly fruit-tinged, and perhaps not as universally enjoyable as Mango Even Keel. Somewhat pleasingly oily mouth feel. Great smell. But, like some other bottled Moody Tongue beers, the bottle pour is a pain. First, you suck foam to keep it from overflowing, then five or six tiny pours waiting each time for three inches of head to die. Do not bring these to a party where you expect to drink them wihout glasses.

Never seen this brand in Texas, maybe it's a new addition or maybe I haven't been paying attention. Either way, I decided to pick up a single of this, bottle dated 5/6/16 and consumed on 6/25. Not much to say, middle of the road IPA. I get no nectarine at all, really no citrus flavor period. Not piney or resieny. Not my idea of a good IPA, won't be stopping by again.

(initially reviewed on draft during CCBW 2016. Subsequently had from a bottle and updated the review)

Poured a hazy golden orange color with a two finger white head. Thick head sticks around FOREVER with tons of lacing.

Smell was prominently citrusy with lots of orange and tangerine coming through along with a slight sweetness coming through. Lots of tangerine but it didn't smell fake. From the bottle you get a more pronounced malt backbone coming through in the aroma with some tangerine rind notes.

Taste was a very balanced mildy hopped IPA with strong prominent tangerine notes. Lots of tangerine and tangerine rind flavor, but it wasn't overly sweet or fake tasting. I was actually impressed that they pulled off the fruit flavors nicely. Not a ton of hop character in the way you;d expect an American IPA to be. Its much closer to an English IPA in that regard as the hops are more subtle and complimentary and not in your face.

Feel was overly carbonated to the point that if you so dare as pour it in anything but the most gentle way you'll get a plume of foam. Once the foam settles down, its very drinkable and refreshing.

Overall I was favorably impressed with this one - I hadn't really liked any of Moody Tongue's previous beers, but this one was good. They pulled the tangerine off pretty well and made a very balanced very refreshing IPA.

Bottle: Poured an amber/copper color ale with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry bitter hops with some light cereal notes. Taste is very akin to an English-style IPA with dry bitter notes, light cereal and very subtle fruit notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but closer to an English style IPA than anything else.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 12 oz bottle on February 12, 2016. Pour creates mostly foam in the glass. Look is hazy copper amber with a foamy head and spotty lacing. I think the bottle I had was old. Smell and taste are not pleasant. Feel is medium in body and seems overly carbonated. It has a dry and somewhat bitter finish.

Poured from a bottle into a standard beer glass. Copper colored and clear, filtered, with very little head and very little carbonation showing, nice light fruit aroma, not generally what I look for in a beer. Bold fruit taste with medium mouthfeel and suprisingly, more carbonation than by sight, all in all a nice beer if you like the fruited style.

12 Fl Oz Bottle
Reviewed on December 29th, 2015
Served in an IPA Glass

Poured a hazy amber body. Very pretty glow. Before the body settled, there was a rather heavy swirl, similar to that of a Wit. It is safe to say yeast did not produce this swirl, I am guessing the nectarine juice had something to do with it. Massive white head. Excellent head retention with an impressive amount of lace.

Sweet citrus. Orange juice. Slight hint of crackery malts. Hint of peppered hops.

Fruity hops hit the tongue first. Mild notes of nectarine, mango, and orange quickly turned bitter, peaking out with mild notes of grapefruit and lemon zest. Faint hint of bread from the malts. Finished semi-dry with a touch of spice and herbal hops. Mouthfeel felt a bit flat. Low/moderate carbonation. Light/medium bodied.

Overall an enjoyable IPA. Not as much nectarine as I would have liked. In fact, all flavors seemed rather timid. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

12 oz bottle, tulip

A – Light amber and mostly clear. A huge, frothy off-white to light-tan head, about an inch and a half, with very long retention. Head is still there ten minutes after the pour.

S – Mango, melon, light grapefruit, and of course, mild nectarine. Crackery-bready malt, with a bit of hop bite or perhaps yeast spice on the finish.

T – Mango and nectarine/orange. A bit of lime, along with a ton of hop bitterness. Crackery and bread crust malt back up the hops.

M – Massive carbonation, with a light to medium-light body, and extremely dry. Definitely a strong Belgian twist on this. Only mildly sweet, with a ton of hop bitterness that is quickly scrubbed by the carbonation. Bitterness is a bit high, unbalanced, the only issue here. Everything else is perfect.

O – As a lover of all beers Belgian, I love this variation on an IPA. Hops and fruit lend a fresh-squeezed quality. An all-around excellent brew.
