The first beer any brewer tastes when visiting another brewery is always its pilsner. Unlike other styles, pilsners can’t hide faults behind malt, hops or barrels, and so are a true representation of the brewery at hand. At Moody Tongue, we find beauty in the simplicity of this style and as a brewer we respect the challenge. This is our pilsner, and we are excited to share this with you. As the first beer which any brewer drinks before exploring other styles, enjoy our Aperitif Pilsner to wake your palate before your next meal.

I didn't know what expect from this Pilsner from the wildly different reviews I've read. Saw a single for $2.99 and thought, what the hell. Poured a slightly hazy light gold with a one finger white foam head that settled into a thin layer throughout. Smell was a little weak, slightly skunky, and crackery. Taste was much better than the aroma, no skunkiness whatsoever. Crackers, honey, light lemon on the taste. Very smooth. Subtle, but firm bitterness. Better than expected.

L-This beer is so heavily carbonated in the beginning that it is impossible to pour right. It literally had a 5+ fingered head on the pour within seconds. Once settled, there is a lacy, slightly frothy head, with a hazy carbonated body and yeasty floaters.
S- Yeasty sourdough and phenols, combined with cracked black pepper and lemon grass. Earthy undertones and whole wheat as well. Hop character in there as well.
T-Bitter and spicy hop upfront, with some slight phenolic notes (banana and clove), some nutmeg and coriander as well. German hops are present. Slight sweetness and a bit of a watered down finish.
F- Feels light and foamy due to the excessive heavy carbonation. You could not drink this beer from the bottle. It would make you puke due to the carb.
O- Feels overall like a solid home-brewers beer that is 2-3 cycles away from being decent... I can appreciate that they did try to do something different here though... It was an interesting drink for sure, it just isn't fleshed out and a little off the rails for me to fully enjoy. Interest has been piqued in the brewery, but likely won't have this particular beer again.

If you enjoy the bitterness of a classic Pilsner this is your beer.

Clear golden pour with a finger of white foam. Lemon and grass with a stale hop finish atop muted german pilsner yeast and crisp malts in both smell and taste. Body is highly carbonated yet thin, grainy and almost skunky, though it is still a fresh bottle. Went ok with tzatziki and pita

This is the worst Pilsner I’ve ever been served.

12oz bottle coded JABT (not helpful) poured into a pilsner glass at fridge temp 5% ABV per label. The beer pours bright light gold in color with off white head. The head hangs around in the way of a half inch cap and there is a constant stream of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. The aroma is mild with notes of pils malt and sourdough bread, along with a slight mineral note. The taste is a unique slightly sweet / tart / bitter hybrid with flavors of lemon, sourdough, pils malt and floral hops. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with just above average carbonation and a dry finish. Fairly clean lagering. Overall, unique take on a pilsner. Wouldn't be a repeat buy for me, but I respect doing something different.

12 ounce bottle - $2.59 at Hop City Craft Beer & Wine in Atlanta, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours a golden, straw body, lightly hazy with a smallish, white head that steadily fizzles away.
Smell: Houses a scent like spoiled apple juice shaken with rotgut boxed white wine.
Taste: A little pop of sweetness before you go off to flavors ranging from store-brand juice box to 'off' pinot grigio and finishing with a sour, stale twang. I'm scouring the bottle and its label for a clear, discernible packaging date to no avail. I checked again to see if there was printed explaination or apology for this mess, but the label is rather stark.
Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Very low carbonation.
Overall: Passing itself off as an aperitif, eh? This thing could put me off meals for a straight week! Yeesh.
