ive long respected what these guys do, always original, quality, and culinarily inspired type beers, ive been to their spot and loved it, and was stoked to get to drink a couple from them, but they were both pretty rough including this one, which seems almost more like wort than finished beer, and is sort of cheesy and weird on the brett side, not at all what i was expecting and hoping for, and i cant help but thinking of these guys a little less favorably now after a couple of not great offerings in close succession for me. a little color to this one, not a lot of life, a nose of backyard bucket type funk, not recognizable brett strains or wild characteristics, not really tart and bacterial either, phenolic not estery, soapy with a little lemon thing going on, but also like mildew and laundry left in the washer too long. i do get the rye in aroma and flavor, that classic pale earthy spiciness, im sure this is pretty high right, and that is really the only redeeming feature of this. seems like it got real hot, hot enough to even stress out a belgian type yeast, and the brett just really isnt coming on in a flattering way. it is loosely autumnal but i really did not dig this, and reckon its pretty amateurish overall for a brewery who takes pains to present themselves as meticulous and high end, which seems like quite the dichotomy. but the beer is my glass is rough. not sure where that leaves me with these guys, still intrigued of course, but this should be lightyears better than it actually is...
