Best effort I’ve had from Devil’s Peak. Attractive, with a loose frothy head without much staying power. Dry hoppy on the nose. Taste is decent, but maybe a bit of a letdown. Lingers nicely on the palate. Worth getting again.

Nice drinkable IPA, not real hoppy, about as good as you'll get in that part of the world.

One finger of long lasting white head over liquid with good clarity. Pretty good aromatics, a little catty. Nice flavour, dark tropical fruit, lemon and hay. Good mouthfeel. Overall a solid IPA likely brewed with local SA ingredients.

Now that's an IPA, god damnit. Aggressive, bitter and juicy. Just what I've been craving for eight months. Beautiful golden Amber orange hue with a fluffy and lasting white head. Pungent, dank hops invade my tastebuds and linger for a long while. Quaffable and something I'd stock in my fridge on the regs if I lived in Cape Town. Two big thumbs up.

The first really good beer we enjoyed in South Africa but not the last. A very solid IPA.

Served chilled in a wine glass
No bottle date (WHY???)
Appearance: King's Blockhouse appears a beautiful crystal clear golden orange in the glass, with a rough pour resulting in a massive off-white head that lasts fantastically well and leaves thick rings of lacing as it recedes. 4.75
Smell: The nose here is phenomenal and absolutely bursting with sweet orange, peach, pineapple, grapefruit pith, piney resin and a certain leafiness/dankness. The malt body is present but far overshadowed by the hops. 4.75
Taste: The flavour offers a perfect balance of hops, malt and bitterness, with notes of pine, grapefruit peel, orange, peach, granadilla, some dankness and an underlying caramel sweetness. 4.5
Mouthfeel: One of the only flaws in this beer is that the level of carbonation is a bit high and a touch harsh. The body however is bang on, at a medium level and nicely oily. 4.25
Overall: King's Blockhouse is certainly the best IPA (if not the best beer) available in South Africa and really stands up to the big American IPAs. This is an absolute must for anyone traveling to SA. 4.5

The King's Blockhouse is as close to a US West Coast IPA that I have come across in Southern Africa. The beer poured a nice clear amber with thin white head that left some spotty lace. The scent was fresh pine and citrus....made me homesick. The taste was slightly bitter with citrus leaning hop with subtle pine and sweet malt being presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a solid beer and would do well in a west coast hood. Brew on DPeak!
