A strong, robust Porter with notes of toffee, chocolate and coffee balanced by English noble hops. Aged on toasted applewood staves, lending characteristics resembling barrel aging, but with notes of applewood rather than oak.

Crowler filled 9/28/20; drank 9/30/20 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A violent pour yielded a big, noisy dark khaki head which quickly dissipated; almost no lace.
Fresh earth, wood, mild caramel, mild dark chocolate & faint smoke notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.
Cream, fresh earth & wood flavors up front; caramel & mild chocolate notes on the finish. Faint booze heat emerged as this warmed.
A real pleasant surprise; it seems I've underestimated Smylie Bros. Can't wait to try more...
