Deep, dark brown where light only shows up on the edge. Minor head, random spots for lace.
The smell starts with a dose of coffee and unsweetened chocolate.
The flavor is lighter than the smell...and smoother. Gone are the harsh bittering notes from coffee grounds. Instead, this beer lands to me like a well-made porter—semisweet chocolate. The body is watery but the carbonation is low. The aftertaste is mostly like cocoa nibs.

On tap at the brewery. Black body with a huge khaki head. Leaves lots of lacing. Smells of oatmeal, a bit of sugar, and some roasted malts. Tastes of oatmeal up front with a touch of acidity. Sweet and creamy before it gets very roasty and a little bitter. Medium body. Not bad, despite the acidity.
