On tap. Poured a clear, ruby/amber color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of bready malt, spices and some funkiness. Sweet caramel malt and toffee with a hint of spiciness and yeastiness.

they have been awarded with a gold medal for this one already, and that seems about right. this is a beautiful beer, an instant classic if you will, and one of the best beers i had here, which is really saying something because they were all excellent. dark amber in color, with a puffy tan foam head that rises and holds above the rim of the glass. it smells more malty than i am used to, even in the style, more of a dry toasted nutty kilned malt profile, really earthy and nice with this yeast, which is somewhere between a saison type and like a liquid bread of sorts, light wild funk too, lots going on with it, but none of the fruitiness. instead its notes of maple and bran, maybe the slightest hint of golden raisin, good smells and tastes all over here. its oddly comforting for something in this style, which rarely has that homey warmth to it, but this certainly does, and its drier too, which makes that even more unique. good carbonation, plenty of creamy body. i wonder about the grain bill, it almost seems like there are corn and oats in here too, its very harvest timey, i like that a lot, smooth and easy drinking but remarkable satisfying too. slight hop bitterness later on, but everything about this is mellow. i will eagerly look forward to my next glass of this one, its easily one of the better takes on this style i have seen from anywhere in the united states...
