Garnet red with amber and and nutty brown highlights. Decent clarity with a very thin khaki ring just around the glass.
Aroma explodes of spiced cherries, wood, and sweet whiskey booze.
Woah... This is... so much better than I thought it would be! Everything we love about the barrel aged process (vanilla, oak, marshmallow) blends perfectly with everything I love about Red ales (caramel, bready malt, spice). As with the aroma, there is a good amount of a cherry likeness that is just perfect with the rest of the contributors.
Nice slick feel to it as well. Syrupy, but not cough syrup. Mild warmth, great balance, lip smacking stickiness but with a dry enough and bitter finish. Almost like a British BA Barleywine.
I did not have very high expectations for this, but good lord does it taste great! Might even sang another bottle or two if they are still sticking around on that shelf down the street.
Cheers!
