super original beer here, a concept ive long been thinking about, and very well executed, a root beer porter, how cool! not sure if this is going to be a series or not, could be a fun one for sure, but this is really rad either way. not sure if its done with like root beer syrup or something, or with like the actual botanicals and herbs and stuff that go into root beer, but it smells and tastes just like the soda, almost more like the soda than beer, but still more beery than that gimmicky not your fathers stuff they tried to pass off as beer awhile back, what ever happened to that farce anyway? there is a fine porter at the core of this, which is essential, even if it ends up just kind of being a vehicle for the root beer, its quality and it keeps this in the beer world. standard looking, dark brown, nice shine, not real big on head or carbonation, which felt a little off for a soda beer, but its a minor critique, i really dug this. aroma and flavor of pure root beer, i get the root beer barrel candies yeah, but its deeper than that, i get quality vanilla in this, a sort of earthy spice thing from star anise to like sarsaparilla, clove, tobacco, peppercorn, caramel, this is in fact quite sweet, but there is roast from the base beer too that i think is needed for balance, some light mid palate fruitiness too, date sugar and black fig, toffee and bread pudding, strong nose and taste, but this has a certain authenticity to it, its really good even if its sweet enough that i dont want a lot of it, its fully captivating, really tastes just like the soda in a way thats insane. reminds me of something prairie would make, but less novelty level really, its fun and they nailed the taste. molasses and nutmeg maybe at the end, more vanilla, brown sugar, and some of the porter coming out, coffee, long and sweet on the palate after the swallow, fair bit of body, more carbonation would be helpful, really ambitious stuff, one of the more exotic beers ive had from wild ride, way cool! some may say its overdone, but its absolutely spot on the soda.
