special edition of their acclaimed peanut butter porter, spiked with real bananas apparently, and its awesome, i think it elevates the base beer, adds some real authenticity in with how genuine the fruit part is, perfect dosage to kind of lead but also co-lead with the peanut butter and indeed also the chocolate character of the base porter, this comes together extremely well, and ive always liked this one better than so many others in this style space, but it still does have that powdered peanut butter thing, this obscures that some, which is neat, just really good, and oddly not that sweet and desserty, its drinkable, balanced, still porter at its core, unexpectedly impressive, bananas are hot in beer right now and this is a great use of them, i was dubious. nice and dark, roasty brown looking, smells like good espresso, dark barley, fresh and lively with the natural ripe banana, dark cocoa as well, the peanut is there, not quite peanut butter, but peanut for sure, and the taste is about the same, i think a little sweeter in the nose actually, a little more banana in the flavor, especially late, but pretty similar, nice bitterness to balance from the roast, natural cocoa character, nib-like and important in the mix, without burnt or smoke notes at all but still very deep, a quality base porter appreciable even with everything going on in here. trace vanilla, late peanut dustiness, no real oils there at all, but mushy banana flavor for sure, smooth and long, delicious really. the bananas turn this up, super good overall, not to be missed for fans of the original either, one to be proud of for these guys!
