*i believe i drank a very old bottle of this, not out of date, but close to out of date, it didn’t say when it was brewed but i suspect it was more than 3 months ago, so this review may not fairly reflect the beer, as it is not fresh.
look: one finger white head which dissipates to a thin layer of bubbles, fair bit of lacing, beer is a clear golden colour, nice levels of carbonation in the glass, big bubbles rising up through it.
smell: eh, not much of one to discuss really, some biscuity malt, a bit of a vinous quality to it, white grape, a hint of champagne, some vanilla, a touch of spice perhaps, a slight honey sweetness, but i feel like i’m imagining aromas to an extent.
taste: i mean, it isn’t unpleasant, but it’s so bland, there’s biscuity grainy malt, some orange flavour, orange peel, a slight bit of champagne, a gentle sweetness, more or less no bitterness on the finish.
feel: light bodied, highly carbonated, dry-ish but as the style goes not so dry, quite drinkable to be fair.
overall: probably not the fairest review of this beer, would like to try a fresh bottle, but I guess this is what happens when you distribute your beer to supermarkets (and your customers are too silly to check the expiry date), mind you I bought this beer ~20km away from kinsale, so forgive me for thinking it would be fresh. oh well
