irrelevant note: my camera wasn't working properly at the time, so the pic for this beer was taken by my wife's cell phone.
mitterbauer pilsener, a very german name compared to most japanese german pilseners, pours out a slightly darker golden color. with low-medium carbonation and a weak head, it's appearance is not exciting. no retention or lacing to speak of. the smell, however, is very interesting. big, nice smell, it's quite different from the rest. i can't place it exactly, maybe a stronger malt presence. there's also a definite floral hoppiness, it almost smell like an english pale ale.
tastes like a pilsener. good medium mouthfeel, lots of flavor and a decent bitter kick at the finish. not quite dry or bitter enough for me to really appreciate this as much as the best i've had. it has enough character for me to distinguish it from the masses, unfortunately this style is just done to death here in japan. as i've said before, i thouroughly enjoy a good pils after a hot day, but this type of beer can bore me to tears sometimes. i just realized i haven't had an IPA in years!
overall, worth a try, better than most macro efforts.
