Appearance: Served in lovely Tin Man glassware at brewery. Pitch black with tan suds.
Aroma: Charry cocoa, smoke, some hoppy snap at the finish.
Taste: Charred malts far and above here, with plenty of burnt chocolate and blackened wood on the palate. The smokiness here is omnipresent, tasting like a campfire log with lots of wood. Blurs the line between “Black IPA” (which it’s billed as) or a well-hopped smoked porter (which I’d classify it as). Drinks well, as I love smoked beers, but as a black IPA, this one’s suspect.
