A- This pours out a dark brown colour that isn't as thick in appearance as I would have thought it to be. The head is tan in color, starts out about two fingers in thickness, and retains quite well, eventually settling into a meringue like topper, that is creamy, dense and full of small air pockets....the lacing is not as impressive, with most of the foamy film quickly slipping back into the beer, without any sort of fight to cling.
S- Whoa! First thing I am getting is a big boozy dark malty aroma, filled with coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark dried pitted fruits (plum, raisin, fig), sweet biscuit, smokey Scotch barrel char, burnt toffee and a finish that is toasty, roasted and lingering.
T- This has initial flavors of graham pie crust, burnt brown sugars, Scotch booziness and toffee/caramel! After my palate settles and gets used to the intensity, I get melted dark chocolate smoothness, vanilla bean, smoky peat, mocha coffee richness, butter creme, another shot of booze and a semi sweet finish of whisky infused with vanilla, biscuit, yeast and perhaps some brandy bean!......Delicious!
M/O- This has a medium/full mouthfeel and the carbonation throughout the taste has been of small bubbles and smooth overall. This is a rich, flavorful Imperial Stout that is more than enough after one bottle, but is perfectly drinkable on a cold winter night with blowing snow, such as this night I am trying it out! Could pair well with a rich beefy dish or if looking for a dessert brew, while intense, would work on its own as a nightcap! A very nice offering from the East Coast and if I get a chance again, I would definitely have this again and recommend!
