Our deep mahogany Wee Heavy is inspired by the one and only Stuart MacKenzie. Rich and malty, we wanted this Scotch Ale to be bold, sturdy, lovable, and lacking pants. Brewed from a grist of English and Scottish malts, the strong wort is caramelized in the kettle and subjected to extended cold conditioning to round out its caramel, toffee, and molasses complexities. An indulgent and substantial brew, so be wary…get “pissed” and you’ll be singing , and yelling “Piper Down!”

16 ounce prowler into tulip glass, filled on 3/17/2019. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper/amber/light reddish color with a 1-2 finger dense and creamy light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, raisin, plum, fig, date, peach, pear, red apple, and red grape; with lighter notes of molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, wood smoke, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. A touch too fruity/yeasty aromas, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, raisin, plum, fig, date, peach, pear, red apple, and red grape; with lighter notes of molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, wood smoke, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, woody, grassy, spicy, roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, roasted nuts, dark fruit, molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, wood smoke, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness; slight spicy alcohol near the end of the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bread, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 7.9% through the glass, minimal lingering booze. Overall this is an outstanding wee heavy. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, light-moderate fruity yeast, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish; awesomely soft feel. Amazingly clean and rich English malt complexity; restrained fruity Scottish yeast, and just enough earthy hops to balance sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example as expected.
