The first pale lager was introduced in 1842 in Pilsen Czech Republic. While there are many variations today, bright and light lager beer quickly became the number one beer style in the world and has remained at the top unchallenged. While most Americans are used to flavorless, watered down pilsners, the Czech style of pilsner is light but full flavored with a firm hop bitterness from large amounts of Saaz hops. This pilsner was brewed in the Czech style with an assertive bitterness, spicy/floral Saaz hop aromas and pronounced malt character.

16 ounce prowler into lager glass, filled on 6/9/2019. Pours fairly crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance of pale malts and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, wood, peppercorn, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great robustness and balance of pale malts and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that us great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an excellent Czech pilsner. All around great robustness and balance of pale malts and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the moderately bitter/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great clean pils malt showcase, with perfectly balanced earthy Saaz hop presence/balance. Zero residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example as expected.
