I reviewed this once before and apparently had a good impression, but I gave it another try recently (330ml bottle) and it was more disappointing than I recall.
The initial impression of the aroma is rather woodsy and floral, but those qualities soon fade; it becomes fruity and citrusy with orange, lemon; there is minimal caramel sweetness. The body is a very clear orange-ish medium copper; the eggshell-white head has almost no retention. There is considerable hop bitterness but without accompanying hop flavor; the alcohol is quite noticeable; also present are fruity esters, nondescript sweetness, and a husky, malty finish. The alcohol makes for a somewhat dry finish, and the carbonation provides a moderate body and some crispness.
My overall impression of this one is that the brewery attempted to produce a British-style ale with ingredients conventionally found in mainstream Japanese beers. Especially with regard to the maltiness, it doesn't have a very British character.
