this is just the 3rd beer from yo-ho that i've tried. after yona yona rocked my world, changing how i think about beer from a can and japanese beer in general, the organic beer was totally underwhelming. so when i got this as a gift i didn't know what to expect, and i don't know how it compares with the karuizawa kogen national trust porter.
ink black with a nice beige head, no brown or red on the edges when held to the light, this is pure black. smells pretty good, not really strong. there are the obvious roasted barley, stale coffee smells you would expect from a porter, but there's something else. it's not bad, but i just can't give it a 4 for smell. i can smell the alcohol even though it's only 5%, and there's perhaps some faint whiff of funky ripe fruit, not sure what it is.
smooth and creamy, very easy going down. adequate bitter finish but it loses its bite as it warms. much better cold. overall decent. good for a japanese beer in a can, but a little weak compared to some other porters i've had.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
