A dark brew with hints of coffee and chocolate nicely balanced with a subtle help influence. A substantial, malty ale⦠complex and flavorful with a medium body and a slightly rusty finish.

This seems a bit underrated to me.
I had this from a can at a hotel bar. Poured into a tall fluted snifter. Very dark brown color with a creamy beige head and great curtain lacing. Very fragrant dark chocolate smell and taste. Some coffee and dark berries, very flavorful. Silky smooth feel. Akin to Black Butte. I would get this again.

12 ounce can poured into a nonic style pint glass.
L: Black in the glass with root beer brown edges, three finger khaki head with good retention and lace.
S: Moderate in strength, roasted malt, some hops coming through early but mostly large malty aromas, coffee and chocolate.
T: Sharp, bitter and roasty, even less sweet than the nose indicates, fairly clean bitter aftertaste with a bit of char.
F: Mostly smooth, medium body,
O: Solid, less sweet than I am used to, perhaps more in line with a traditional Porter.

Great black body with a white/yellow frothy head and great retention. Just perfect to look at. Aroma is slight roast and chocolate. Taste is a nice balance of roast, sweetness and a moderate butter finish. Some punch on the finish. Body is a touch thin. Overall a very well crafted standard Porter (with rye malts).

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the United Airlines Polaris Lounge at Dulles Airport. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is leaving some lace. The scent had notes of roast and chocolate. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with light roast malt base with hints of chocolate. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

A nice variation on a standard porter using rye instead of barley which gives is a slightly different rate, although still similar. Otherwise a standard porter.

Just a shade lighter then totally black with a small tan head and modest lacing. Earthy, roasted malt aroma highlighted by coffee, bittersweet chocolate and ripe fruit. Flavor carries on the roasted malt taste while maintaining the pleasant bitterness imparted from the rye grain. Hops in the aftertaste are moderately spicy. Dry, medium bodied mouthfeel with a lingering finish.

Black with reddish-brown highlights, tan head with tight foam. Excellent retention and lace.
Chocolate, heavily toasted pumpernickel bread, and slight coffee aroma.
Smooth, earthy chocolate and toasted pumpernickel crust. A bit of tang on the end
Medium heavy body with medium light carbonation
Dang good porter.

Poured from a can. Deep, dark brown. Smells of browned malt and a little hops. Tastes nice, with brown malt and a bit of chocolate complemented by rye spice. There's also a rye kick at the back of the throat.

An exceptionally well-balanced beer. Particularly nice because a rye porter is certainly a rare style.
Pours black with a light tan head. Smells strongly of malt with a hint of ash. Tastes of dark chocolate, hints of syrup, and the bitter-spicy aftertaste of rye. Fantastic mouth feel. Overall, one of my favorite beers!

Chocolatey brown greatness!! Foamy, leathery head. A fabulous overall Porter structure with real nice tones of coffee & chocolate. It was great all alone... it was great with some salty snacks... flat out the best beer I've had in awhile. The only knock I can give it is it had next to no noticeable aroma - just not much going on in that department. But the positives way overshadow that curious missing of the mark. Can't wait to go buy some more - and it's made not far from me in good 'ol Virginia!! ... so, I guess I'm supporting my local economy to boot!!

Pours black, with some tan colored head. Aroma is a bit roasty. Flavors of rye and maybe caramel. Pretty easy drinking, would but again for an "every-day" beer.
