On tap:
Pours dark - looks dark brown in low light; held up to the light it seems to have decent clarity ignoring color. Head is soapy, but decent, and provides lacing.
Nose is pumpkin pie spice with a darker background-dark brown sugar or even molasses - but subdued in sweetness. Maybe a little smoke, just a little.
Taste is dark bread, pumpernickel-esque, with a raisin and candied hop flavor. That sounds weird, but it is definitely a sweet/bitter combination. There is something vegetal in nature - maybe pumpkin - that adds a bitterness that is intriguing. The taste actually is lighter on the spices, but my nose picked them up easily and the effect was very nice!
Very enjoyable, intriguing, and pretty powerfully flavored/scented brew. I can think of Warlock, although I'm a year out from that brew (which I enjoyed), but I don't think this beer is as syrupy as people indicate the comparison is.
