The selected style for this beer has a description here that seems to allow "anything". That said, this seems more like a light, balanced American barleywine than my concept of a Belgian dark ale. The beer is drinkable and inoffensive, but is not inspiring my taste buds.
Nice red-hued brunette of a beer with a bubbly and clinging personality (nice carbonation/lacing).
Lightly sweet but a tad earthy or woody smell to her. With some searching, there is perhaps a light hint of dark molasses behind the barrel. No typical Belgian scents of yeast of candi sugar sweetness emanating from her, IMO.
She gives me a rather cool/neutral reception as I introduce my palate to her. There is a decent effervescence to her personality, though. As I imagined from the nose, I could see some (malty) sweetness in her, but she hides it pretty well. Mainly her wooden expression has me searching to find out what she's thinking, feeling, hiding. I think she might have a dark side to her, but getting her to show it is a chore. As she warms up to me, she becomes pleasant, though she is very reserved. Overall the initial impressions before actual interaction held up.
I left the encounter feeling un-enlightened, but not like I'd lost anything in the interaction. We'll go our own ways and probably both not think about it much any more.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
