Pours a lovely, clear date-color. Head on this monster is pretty decent give the ABV, and the fact there's a spot or two of lacing adds to it.

Nose is a tad boozy, which would be fine if the other notes stood up to it more. There is a date-like dark fruit note, but it seems dulled a tad by an indistinct bitterness.

Feel and taste isn't quite as boozy, thankfully, but the bitterness is higher. Again with date up front, it's cancelled early by a woody bitterness that doesn't allow the sweeter notes to shine. Tannic, unfruity red wine is another impression that comes to mind. This beer isn't truly bitter to me, it's actually fairly balanced, but I am expected a maltier beer.

Is there a style we need to create for American Quad? This seems like it might fit, with bitterness being added to a classic style. I do get some of the classic notes, but they are shrouded in a way I wish they weren't.

This is a collaboration between Old Ox and Ocelot. I thought this was a solid quad and incredibly easy drinking for a 14% beer. I didn't get any alcohol burn taste. Lots of dried fruits in the taste. If you get a chance to try it, take it. My only real critique is that it is almost too smooth for a quad. I may have preferred a little stronger malt taste, but that is being picky.
