Poured from the bottle into a teku glass. Vintage 2021.
Deep opaque body of walnut brown, kind of like a dark fudge actually when examined closely which is impressive. Creamy forming head, light tan in color and quite a good amount of retention. Swiss cheese bubbles, even a touch of lace too.
Real nice aroma. Chocolate darkness with a whipped cream like flavor note. Sticky marshmallow but with not a sweet gooey character, definitely like a toasty note going on, which hints towards burnt sugar. Graham cracker and milk like flavor of malt also. Lacks just a hint of barrel aging but does have a rich malt sensing body with a great profile on the nose.
Very fun palate. First impression is a bit unexpected but there is much revealed here. Whisky hinting heat, lending towards some boozy and wet character slightly. Faint touches of oak, but in a wet and young flavor. The mid palate though is a mix of excellent stout flavors, rich dark chocolate, a gooey marshmallow and a nicer simple whiskey note. Runs a little hot in aftertaste, doesn't quite have the round oak flavor, but there's toasty grains and char in the mix too and bitterness.
Comes out more as a nice flavored stout, very good actually. In fact I think this might be better if it wasn't barrel aged.
