Truncated notes below. Reviewed live as an American pale ale per Rekolan's website.
BOTTLE: 50cl. Brown glass. Off-putting (and borderline unreadable) label. Branded pry-off crown cap. Best before: 27.07.2015.
4.5% ABV. Brewed with American hops.
Served cold into a mason jar in Kuopio, Finland. Expectations are average.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: ~2 inches wide. White in colour. Foamy and frothy, with fair thickness and fullness. Could be softer-looking and robust. Recedes within 3 minutes, leaving no lacing.
BODY: Translucent transparent golden-copper of average vibrance. Could have better clarity. I see no yeast or hop sediment.
Appears well-carbonated. A decent looking pale ale, but not unique or special.
AROMA: Honey malt, crystal malt, overdone malty sweetness, and generic floral hop character with a grassy bend. It comes off stale and has an almost funky cheap malt presence, as though poor quality barley was used. Hop profile is insufficient for an American pale ale, with none of the citrus promised on Rekolan's website, nor any interesting hop notes (e.g. pine, resins, oils, etc.).
Aromatic intensity is average.
No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Suggests a simple shallow beer that doesn't possess enough hops to qualify as a pale ale.
TASTE: Has an odd grassy and herbal hop profile. Unbecoming touches of fruitcake. Completely inadequate hopwise, coming off more like an overhopped pilsner than a pale ale. Lacks any hop character of interest; there're no resins, oils, pine notes, citrus, juicy fruit notes, etc. The malt backbone comes off cheap and sweet, with generic notes of malt extract (evoking bad homebrew), cheap pale malts, and thin pilsner malts. It's also quite heavy on the crystal malts, lending it an almost champagne-like effervescence.
Balance is off-kilter. It's simple and shallow, with no subtlety or nuance to speak of. Just a plain mix of hops and malts that don't play well together and possess no harmony or synergy of flavour. This is far from a gestalt or even cohesive beer. Not caring much for it.
No yeast or alcohol comes through.
TEXTURE: Clean but artificial, with a sticky malt syrup presence on the palate accompanied by too much heft, weight, and thickness for a pale ale (especially one so shallow). Smooth and wet, but unrefreshing. Medium-bodied. Overcarbonated, but not to the point of sharpness.
Fails to elevate the beer as a whole. There's no harmony of texture and taste. This mouthfeel doesn't accentuate any specific notes from the flavour profile.
OVERALL: Yet another poor Finnish attempt at a pale ale. Tragically underhopped, but drinkable. It tastes like a mildly hopped version of the pale lagers that are so rampant in Finland, lacking the complexity (including even the esters) that should be in an ale. Not recommended for the discerning drinker.

0,5 l bottle into a mug. Slightly hazy golden color, medium white foamy head with good retention and lacing. Fresh smell with citrus and peach. Crisp taste with the same fruits as in the smell and little grass. Starts sweet and ends with a pleasant dry bitterness. Medium mouthfeel with high carbonation. Overall a good drinkable beer, a bit pricey though. Nice on a warm evening.
