I can't really say anything that champ103 didn't say. It's a flavorful lager that's sessionable. I have a nostalgic soft spot for black lagers, due to Sam Adams in my undergrad days. This fills the void nicely.

On tap at D&T Drive Inn, Houston
A: Pours a dark brown, nearly black color. A dense beige head forms with good retention and lace.
S: Wonderful toasted malts, with a light cereal grain character. The faintest touch of that sour malt aroma. Light earthy hops, finishes more malty. Even with a slight chocolate aroma. Fantastic.
T: The malt character is absolutely stunning. Toasted, cereal grains, and again that slightest of sour malt ting. Earthy hops, but the malt is the show here. Baked bread, and chocolate come out. Everything is subtle, but spot on for the style.
M/O: Given the ABV, the body is incredibly full...though not in the big beer way. Perfect carbonation that is crisp and smooth at the same time. Beautifully clean, along with being perfectly weighty. This is something I can gulp down. This hits the nail on the head, and something I want to keep coming back to.
Given the ABV, it is stunning how full and satisfying this is. Most American breweries almost always miss the mark with "session" beers. This Schwarzbier might be the best example of a low ABV offering I have had in a very long time, one that is not on cask to boot. Beyond impressed, and immediately one of my favorites in Texas. I love me all things Live Oak, but I think this beat LO's version. Incredible is all I have to say.
