Copenhagen 21/10 2019. 33 cl bottle from Vinspecialisten, Brogade, Køge. Drawing of Owl on the wings on the label. They call it a “Russian Imperial Stout”.

Pours murky, opaque, dark brown with a medium-sized light beige head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer covering the surface of the beer. Moderate Lacing.

Aroma is fairly intense, sweet and fruity. Brown sugar, caramel, dark fermented fruit. Tart notes. Light presence of alcohol.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, Soft, smooth, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is medium sweet followed by a light, tart bitterness. A bit candy-like. Aftertaste is bitter-sweet with an overweight to the sweet side. Lingers for a while.

A pretty light, fairly sweet Stout. Not very Russian or Imperial.

Very dark, ruby edges, beautiful off-white foam.
Quite classic smell, toasted, coffee.
Same for the taste, cocoa, some raisins, light backgroung liquorice,
Coffee and cocoa in the aftertaste, with some sweetness.
All the right notes, near the lower range of the style. Acceptable.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip nonic pint glass.

Chewy tan looking head, thick and 4 fingers tall and rich. Gorgeous walnut brown and red body color too, if a little milky and wet looking.

Light roasted malts on the nose and a little bit of strawberry like ester. Hints a little spice cardamom strangely.

Palate is more light qualities. Watery in the stout realm, with flavors of weak coffee and roast to match. Touches a little clove spice, and faint chocolate bitterness neither light or dark. Has a bit of a powdery finish, and sense of possible soft water?

Listed as a Russian Imperial but drinks more like a stout or porter. Unfortunately like a weak one in either realm but drinkable.

750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/25/2015. Pours lightly murky nearly opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, raisin, plum, fig, apple, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, raisin, plum, fig, apple, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Balanced bittersweet roast/herbal hop finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, raisin, plum, fig, apple, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Foreign stout style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Black beer with nice tan head. Sweet fruity aroma. Light, sweet, fruity/malty taste. Not too light, good amount of flavor. Fine soft carbonation with a nice finish. Interesting and enjoyable. Nice black beer for summer months. Glad I didn’t wait for fall to try it.
