While not quite residing in Ohio, Covington, Kentucky might be close enough for the brewers at Braxton to adopt the "buckeye" candies and all its peanut butter and chocolate to permeate their milk stout.
Very dark with a bark brown depth, Buckeye Stout comes with a gentle mocha swirl that settles on the rim. Its roasty, robust and savory aromas roll across the nose with strong suggestions of coffee, peanut buttercup and campfire. Sweet on the tongue, its robust maltiness slathers the tastebuds with toffee, chocolate, sweet cream and nuttiness.
With a slight lessening of sweetness and a growing sense of bittersweet chocolate as well as peanut butter, the promises of the iconic Ohio dessert comes into focus. A mild coffee flavor, slight campfire and a broad woodsy bitterness are a constant reminder that there's a stout in control of taste. Hints of scorched cream and rich fudge balance the hops and roast to keep the stout complex and sultry.
Full bodied and creamy from sip until finish, the malt dominant taste invites a hint of coffee liquor to add a sweet, toasty and spicy taste and texture as the ale trails into a long and savory after palate with a return of burnt cream and campfire coming in echoes.
