This robust and chewy imperial stout is loaded with oats and dark malts to bring forward a huge mouthfeel and big notes of caramel, roast, and chocolate. After fermentation, we added liquid cocoa nibs and fresh mint leaves to recreate one of our favorite classic ice cream flavors! Rich and delicate, this big stout leads with deep chocolate and finishes with a cooling mint exhalation. Enjoy this special beer on draft or in four packs as part of our Pastry Stout series.

16 oz can from Tavour. Near black pour with minimal head. Mint on the aroma as well as chocolate. Smells like a York Peppermint Patty when you open the wrapper. Tastes just like that as well except for a minor bit of bitterness at the Finish.

$ 7.49 (Including shipping)/16 oz can ($ 0.468 /oz) from Tavour, Seattle, WA. Reviewed 5/22/19.
“032619” stamped on bottom rim of can. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 54 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Dark brown, clear.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to the light, still opaque.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.2 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, medium density, shorter than average retention, rapidly diminishing to a barely noticeable crown of extremely tiny bubbles and no cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Overpowering aroma of cocoa.
Flavor – 3 – Begins with barely noticeable cocoa, surprising after the nose. Very slightly bitter. No mint, no malt. It ends as it began. No alcohol (9.7% ABV), no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3.25 – Thin, watery, lively to fizzy carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3.25 – At least they used fresh mint and not some synthetic or “natural mint flavor”. Kind of like a generic Oreo top and bottom sans center crème. My introduction to “pastry stouts” did not end well.
