Milkshake IPA with lactose, mango puree, and vanilla. Poured from a can into a Streetside pub glass. The pour is light orange, very hazy, and sports a finger of rocky off-white head. The nose has lots of mango as well as some lemon, peach, and a hint of vanilla.
Medium-light body with a silky feel. Up front is a nice bready malty flavor as well as some lemon and mango. All of this is assisted by milky sweetness. The mango intensifies as the beer moves across the palate and is joined by some vanilla towards the back. On the finish are lingering flavors of mango, orange, and lemon.
I picked these cans up at Braxton Labs without trying the beer because they no longer had it on tap. Nevertheless, I thought the coconut milkshake IPA was stupendous and so it stands to reason that they were out of this for a good reason. My instincts were dead on. This is one hell of a good beer, especially if you like soft, citrusy New England IPAs and mango. Easily one of the most ``mango'' mango beers I have had. Not so much that it tastes like juice, but more than enough to complement the flavors of the hops. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the New England and milkshake IPAs I have had from Braxton and encourage them to keep experimenting. This is definitely one I hope Braxton makes this again.
