Dark Charge Imperial Stout celebrates the time-honored tradition of barrel-aging and the skilled craftsmanship of Kentucky Distilling. Aged in New Riff Distilling "Bottled in Bond" Barrels then in 6 Year 100% malted Rye Whiskey Barrels, this Imperial Stout has developed Notes of Deep Chocolate, Smooth Oak, Caramel, and Subtle Spice. These Notes are complemented by the slight Dark Stone fruitness that Dark Charge is known for.

22 ounce black wax capped bottle, 2021 vintage, bottle #0306/1200. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with almost an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. I like the aroma, the brew smells like bourbon, fudge, vanilla, burnt/charred malt, caramel and some rye spiciness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some oak and toffee flavors. Good amount of barrel character in both the aroma and taste, and no one flavor overpowers the others. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit creamy with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. It's a bit boozy but doesn't drink like it's 15.3% ABV. I liked this Dark Charge variant a lot, worth trying if you're able to!
