This year’s Barrel House variant spent additional time in freshly dumped cinnamon whiskey barrels to pull more oak, caramel and vanilla from the wood, but also the sweet and spicy character from the barrels’ previous tenant. We’re left with a bold, sweet and spicy Dark Charge for those who are brave enough for a new adventure.

22 ounce bottle, 2022 vintage, bottle #0589/1400. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, hot cinnamon and caramel. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some coffee, burnt/charred malt, oak and molasses flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. Admittedly I'm not a fan of cinnamon whiskey so when I got my Dark Charge shipment I knew I'd drink this one first and get it out of the way. But this was better than I was expecting, the cinnamon worked well with all the other flavors. Definitely worth trying if you get the chance!
